HOUSTON– September 7, 2016 – Optech4D, a provider of 3D virtual and augmented reality technologies, has been selected by Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC) and the Environmentally Friendly Drilling Systems (EFD) program to construct a 3D virtual reality offshore drilling rig for enhanced oil and gas safety training. HARC, a nonprofit research hub dedicated to advancing sustainability in the areas of energy, water and air, will leverage Optech4D’s software to educate the public and industry workers on oil and gas safety.
“Our relationship with HARC-EFD evolved from a mutual desire to increase safety and mitigate incidents associated with offshore drilling,” said Vincent Higgins, chief executive officer of Optech4D. “Together with HARC-EFD, we are confident that our decades of experience in the energy sector will enable us to rapidly produce a product that improves the worker safety training experience, which will in turn result in fewer incidents, accidents and injuries.”
Optech4D’s software will simulate real-world offshore environments, allowing website visitors to interact with multiple locations on an offshore rig. EFD sponsors, who also have a deep commitment to safety, will share additional material using “hot spots” throughout the site to create additional value for those wanting to learn more about industry operations and safety practices.
“HARC is pleased to partner with likeminded professionals that share a similar vision and commitment to safety within the industry,” said Rich Haut, program director for energy production at HARC, and director of the EFD Program. “We look forward to showcasing and leveraging Optech4D’s 3D simulation environment with the general public in an effort to enhance safety awareness among workers and those involved in offshore drilling and production operations.”
Optech4D’s immersive learning software was designed to improve operations, maintenance and most importantly, safety. Optech4D’s selection by HARC illustrates the company’s expertise, commitment and value to the energy industry and further strengthens its position as the leader in oil and gas AR and VR solutions.
The Virtual Offshore Safety Awareness (VOSA) site is set to go live later this year. Anyone can access EFD’s Virtual Site free of charge via: http://efdvirtualsite.org/.
